So it is critically important that you research and assess the qualifications of each program you are contemplating before enrolling in your final choice. Nursing Degrees

There are several degree options offered to become a nurse. And to become a Registered Nurse (RN), a student must enroll in an accredited school and program. A nursing student can receive a qualifying degree in just two years, or advance to achieve a graduate degree for a total of six years. Following are some brief summaries of the nursing degrees that are offered to aspiring students in the Malone NY area.

  • Associates Degree. The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is typically a two year program offered by community colleges. It prepares graduates for an entry level position in nursing in healthcare facilities including hospitals, clinics or nursing homes. Many use the ADN as an entry into nursing and ultimately attain a more advanced degree.
  • Bachelor’s Degree. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) supplies more in depth training than the ADN. It is usually a 4 year program offered at colleges and universities. Licensed RNs may be allowed to complete an accelerated program based on their past training or degree and professional experience (RN to BSN). Those applying to the program might wish to advance to a clinical or administrative position, or be more competitive in the job market.
  • Master’s Degree. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is generally a two year program after achieving the BSN. The MSN program provides specialization training, for example to become a nurse practitioner or focus on administration, management or teaching.

When a graduating student has attained one of the above degrees, she or he must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) in order to become licensed. Further requirements for licensing can vary from state to state, so be sure to contact the New York board of nursing for any state requirements.

Why Nursing?

A nursing career can lead to a number of opportunities, such as research, health care education and specialty areas of practice. Nurses go into the profession for many reasons, the most notable are its practical and personal advantages. Nurses provide direct, one-on-one care to patients. Many patients in a medical facility or home care environment spend more time with nurses than with physicians. Nurses often choose the profession due to a passion to tend to the needs of patients, including in situations of short-term treatment of illness and long-term care of chronic ailments. This human aspect of the healthcare profession, as opposed to the analytical or research related elements, is appealing to many who choose to pursue a career in nursing. Nurses have a wide range of applicable skills and can choose from an assortment of work environments, such as home care facilities, doctor’s offices, medical clinics, community centers and hospitals. Also, nurses can progress into a variety of specialties, such as addictions, critical care, genetics and neonatology. While most nurses provide personal patient care, others opt to be educators, policy advisers and pharmaceutical representatives.

  • Overseeing patients

They can deliver primary or specialty care services, prescribe medications, and diagnose and treat basic illnesses or injuries.

    Malone, New York

Malone is a municipal corporation,[3] of New York State, a town being the major division of each county. Towns in New York are classified by the U.S. Census Bureau as minor civil divisions.[4] Every square foot of New York is incorporated; all residents who do not live in a city or on an Indian reservation live in a town. These provide or arrange for the primary functions of local government. While some provide most municipal services for all town residents and selected services for residents of villages, some provide little more than road maintenance.[5] The population was 14,545 at the 2010 census.[6] The town contains a village also named Malone. The town is an interior town located in the north-central part of the county.

The town was formed from part of the town of Chateaugay in 1805. The town was originally named "Harison", after Richard Harison who had purchased the land and founded the town. The name was changed in 1808 to "Ezraville", after Ezra L'Hommedieu, and in 1812 to "Malone".

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 102.8 square miles (266.3 km2), of which 101.5 square miles (262.9 km2) is land and 1.3 square miles (3.3 km2), or 1.25%, is water.[6]
