Tracyton, Washington

Tracyton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. Its population was 5,233 at the 2010 census.[3] It was named for 19th century Secretary of the Navy Benjamin F. Tracy.[4]

Tracyton is located in central Kitsap County at 47°36′42″N 122°39′4″W / 47.61167°N 122.65111°W / 47.61167; -122.65111 (47.611667, -122.650977).[5] It sits on the east side of Dyes Inlet and is bordered to the south by the city of Bremerton.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.2 km2), of which 1.9 square miles (5.0 km2) are land and 0.85 square miles (2.2 km2), or 31.20%, are water.[3]

Waterville, Washington

Waterville is a town in and the county seat of Douglas County,[5]Washington, United States which is known for its wheat industry. It is part of the Wenatchee-East Wenatchee metropolitan area. The population was 1,138 at the 2010 census.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 1,138 people, 449 households, and 316 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,308.0 inhabitants per square mile (505.0/km2). There were 482 housing units at an average density of 554.0 per square mile (213.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.5% White, 1.1% Native American, 0.6% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.5% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.8% of the population.

There were 449 households of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.6% were non-families. 23.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.98.

Trout Lake, Washington

Trout Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Klickitat County, Washington, United States. The population was 557 at the 2010 census.[3] The town is notable for its organic dairy and herb farms, and as an access point to Mount Adams and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Trout Lake is in the northwest corner of Klickitat County, 14 miles (23 km) south of the 12,276-foot (3,742 m) summit of Mount Adams. State Route 141 passes through the community, traveling 22 miles (35 km) south to the town of White Salmon and 5 miles (8 km) west to its terminus at Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Trout Lake CDP has a total area of 7.0 square miles (18.1 km2), of which 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 0.61%, are water.[3] The community sits in the Trout Lake Valley, drained to the southeast by Trout Lake Creek which flows to the White Salmon River, a south-flowing tributary of the Columbia River.

Spokane metropolitan area

The Spokane–Spokane Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of Spokane, Stevens, and Pend Oreille Counties in Washington State, anchored by the city of Spokane and its largest suburb, Spokane Valley. As of July 1, 2018, the MSA had an estimated population of 573,493. [1] The Spokane Metropolitan Area and the neighboring Coeur d'Alene metropolitan area, make up the larger Spokane–Coeur d'Alene combined statistical area. The urban areas of the two MSAs largely follow the path of Interstate 90 between Spokane and Coeur d'Alene. In 2010, the Spokane–Spokane Valley MSA had a gross metropolitan product of $20.413 billion.[2]

As of 2013, there were 535,189 people and 208,513 households residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 86% White, 2% Black, 1% Native, 2% Asian, 0% Islander, and 5% Hispanic. According to the Association of Religion Data Archives' 2010 Metro Area Membership Report, the denominational affiliations of the Spokane MSA are 64,277 Evangelical Protestant, 682 Black Protestant, 24,826 Mainline Protestant, 754 Orthodox, 66,202 Catholic, 31,674 Other, and 339,338 Unclaimed.[3]

Twisp, Washington

Twisp is a town in Okanogan County in north central Washington, United States, which sits at the confluence of the Twisp and Methow rivers. The population was 938 at the 2000 census and decreased to 919 at the 2010 census.

On July 30, 1897, Henry C. Glover platted a town in the Methow Valley he called Gloversville, in which a small store and post office were soon established.[6][7] In 1898, Glover became postmaster of the town, which was now called Twisp, the origin of which is unclear.[7] The common explanation is that it comes from the Okanagan placename /txʷəc'p/,[8] which possibly translates to wasp, yellowjacket, or the sound made by a wasp.[7] On June 29, 1899, Amanda P. Burgar platted the town of Twisp adjacent to the original Gloversville site, which was thereafter considered part of Twisp.[7]

Twisp soon contained a population of miners and ranchers who were supported by many local businesses, including a drug store, a bank, a hotel, two saloons and a Methodist church.[7] The Methow tribe was also a common sight, who continued to camp in their traditional sites and traded with the settlers.[7] On August 6, 1909, the town was incorporated and elected its first officers.[7] One of the first issues the five-member town council faced was liquor licenses for the two saloons, and a 1910 election was held to determine whether Twisp would implement Prohibition.[7] The saloons served free drinks on election day, which allegedly all 88 voters partook in, and Prohibition was rejected by a vote of 56-32.[7] In 1911, electricity was brought to Twisp and the first movie house opened.[7] On January 15, 1912, the Twisp School, constructed at a cost of $12,109.68, opened its doors.[9]

Wenatchee, Washington

Wenatchee (/wɛˈnætʃiː/ wen-ATCH-ee) is a city located in north-central Washington and is the largest city and county seat of Chelan County, Washington, United States.[5] The population within the city limits in 2010 was 31,925.[6] In 2018, the Office of Financial Management estimated the population at 34,329. Located at the confluence of the Columbia and Wenatchee rivers near the eastern foothills of the Cascade Range, Wenatchee lies on the western side of the Columbia River, across from the city of East Wenatchee. The Columbia River forms the boundary between Chelan and Douglas County. Wenatchee is the principal city of the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Chelan and Douglas counties (total population around 110,884). However, the "Wenatchee Valley Area" generally refers to the land between Rocky Reach and Rock Island Dam on both banks of the Columbia, which includes East Wenatchee, Rock Island, and Malaga.

The city was named for the nearby Wenatchi Indian tribe. The name is a Sahaptin word that means "river which comes [or whose source is] from canyons" or "robe of the rainbow". Awenatchela means "people at the source [of a river]". The city of Wenatchee shares its name with the Wenatchee River, Lake Wenatchee and the Wenatchee National Forest.

Wenatchee is referred to as the "Apple Capital of the World" due to the valley's many orchards. The city is also sometimes referred to as the "Buckle of the Power Belt of the Great Northwest". The "Power Belt of the Great Northwest" is a metaphor for the series of hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River. Rock Island Dam is located nearest to the middle of this "belt", and so was labeled the "Buckle". This saying is printed at the top of every issue of Wenatchee's newspaper, the Wenatchee World, but is no longer in common use elsewhere.[7]

UnionsWA

UnionsWA is the peak Trades and Labour Council in Western Australia. It represents over 30 affiliated unions, which have over 150,000 members in Western Australia.[1] The Council is affiliated with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).

In April 2000, the Trades & Labor Council of Western Australia became simply UnionsWA, to coincide with the consolidation of various union based operations within Western Australia and the opening of "Unity House" on May Day, 2000.

1947 - It continued in this guise for another twenty years when, in 1947, the name was changed once more, this time to the Trade Unions Industrial Council (ALP, WA) to more accurately delineate its trade union role from the political motives of the labour movement.

Westport, Washington

Westport is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The city's population was 2,099 at the 2010 census. It is located on a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Grays Harbor from the Pacific Ocean.

The public Westport Marina is the largest marina on the outer coast of the United States's Pacific Northwest. The marina is home to a large commercial fishing fleet and several recreational charter fishing vessels. A summer-only passenger ferry, discontinued in 2008, previously connected the town to Ocean Shores, across the mouth of the harbor to the north.

Westport was officially incorporated on June 26, 1914. Names for the area in the past include Peterson's Point, Chehalis City, and Fort Chehalis. The latter name is for a U.S. Army fort established in 1860 before the town was founded, "ts-a-lis" is the Lower Chehalis word for Westport, meaning "place of sand". Early explorers pronounced the word "Chehalis" and gave this name to the river and the people living up river who later became the Chehalis people or "People of the Sands". The area was used regularly during the summer by local Native American tribes (most likely the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, comprising Willapa Chinook and Lower Chehalis people) before Thomas Barker Speake and his family arrived early in the summer of 1857. Westport is also the home to a station for the US Coast Guard. In 2015, the Ocosta School District became the first to build a publicly funded vertical tsunami shelter, located at Ocosta Elementary School.

University Place, Washington

University Place received its name in the 1800s when the University of Puget Sound, a private liberal-arts college in North Tacoma, purchased land along the primary north-south route of Grandview Drive. The school sought to build a new campus there, but ended up selling the land back to the city for about $11,000. University Place remained an unincorporated part of Pierce County until the City of University Place was formed on August 31, 1995.[5]

Today, University Place is largely suburban in character and functions as a mixed business and residential area with waterfront on the Puget Sound. The town is home to Curtis Senior High School and Charles Wright Academy.

University Place's news is primarily covered by The News Tribune (Tacoma), and is also covered by University Place Patch, a hyper-local news website that launched in October 2010, and sometimes by news media in Seattle. Earlier newspapers for the community were the weekly Suburban Times (1970s), published by Dave Sclair (who, starting in 1970, also published Western Flyer); and, in the 1980s, the Lakewood Press, published by Grace T. Eubanks and later Dane S. Claussen, which launched the University Place Press as a monthly and then biweekly before it folded in early 1989.

White Swan, Washington

White Swan is an unincorporated community located on the Yakama Indian Reservation, presumably named after Chief White Swan of the Yakamas[3] around the start of the 20th century. The town was on the Mt Adams Highway (an overland road between Yakima and The Dalles beginning in the 1850s) between Union Gap and Fort Simcoe. In September 1921, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.) (DOC) opened the Yakima Indian Christian Mission. In 1967, the former child-care facilities of the Mission were leased to the Sundown M Corporation. Using the registered cattle brand of the Mission (from the years it owned cattle), the Sundown M Ranch began serving recovering alcoholics in 1968.[4]Pacific Power & Light Company first brought electricity to the community in 1928. The White Swan Library (a branch of the Yakima Valley Regional library) was established in 1947. It was moved to a donated facility in 1969 where it stands today. White Swan is part of the Mt Adams School District #209, and home of White Swan High School. The town has never been formally incorporated.[5][6][7]

This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, White Swan has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps.[9]

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,033 people, 775 households, and 658 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 29.4 people per square mile (11.3/km²). There were 831 housing units at an average density of 8.0/sq mi (3.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 26.24% White, 0.30% African American, 59.28% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 8.14% from other races, and 5.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.99% of the population.
